Got an interesting call this week from a gentleman named David, seems he’s an avid beachcomber and was at Horsfall beach over the weekend and found a piece of shipwreck. Fearing that it might be washed off or taken by someone else, he and his sons packed it up in the back of his pick up truck and took it home!
He wanted to do the right thing and give it to the appropriate organization but couldn’t seem to get the interest he was hoping for. So I called my friends over at KEZI news and talked them into coming out. Michelle did her story, I took photos and started emailing them out to the appropriate folks. Well… I got a reply from Calum at State Parks and he tells me he’s positive its a piece of the mystery shipwreck from last summer, the George L. Olson!!! How exciting.
Now a piece of that historic shipwreck can be preserved and viewed by folks who can’t make the 4 mile hike.
On top of that news, the recent winter storms while causing havoc in some places, have uncovered more shipwrecks on the coast! You can view more about the shipwrecks at http://kezi.com/news/70567
