Bastendorff Beach County Park

Cape Arago State Park
5 miles SW of Charleston
Located at the end of Cape Arago Highway, you’ll find Cape Arago Beach. Tucked away below the cliffs, a short walk along the steep trails will take you to a secluded cove where tide pooling and fossils can be found. Visitors can also enjoy whale watching, fishing, and scuba diving. Two trails can be found for excellent hiking opportunities, the south trail leads to tidepools full of a variety of sea life, and the north trail lets visitors view offshore colonies of seals and sea lions. Empire Lakes
At John Topits Park Hull St, Coos Bay
120 acres of relatively undisturbed natural area within Coos Bay City limits. No motorized boats. Bike trails, hiking, kayaking, jogging, swimming, boating, fishing, wheelchair access. Middle Lake has restrooms and play structures. 269-8918
Ferry Road Park
Ferry Rd, North Bend

Golden and Silver Falls State Natural Area
Located a half hour from Coos Bay at the end of Coos River Highway, Golden and Silver Falls is 24 miles off Highway 101
A small parking and picnic area is located along the banks of Glenn and Silver Creeks, set in an old-growth forest of Douglas fir, Big Leaf Maple and Oregon myrtle trees. Hiking trails wind through scenic canyons to each of the two waterfalls. Facilities include picnic tables, fire rings and a restroom. Bring your own drinking water. This park is a favorite for fishing, hiking, enjoying nature and solitude, and photography.
Mingus Park
10th and Commercial, Coos Bay
Japanese & rhododendron gardens, gazebo, duck pond and bandstand. Outdoor swimming pool open to the public in the summer months. Walking trails, picnic tables, disc golf, tennis courts, softball field, basketball courts, playground areas, jogging, bicycling, horseshoe pits, skateboard park, restrooms. Oak Street Park

Optimist’s Tenth St. Park
At SE corner of S. 10th St. and Johnson Ave, Coos Bay

Shell Island
Part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge
Shell Island and the surrounding reefs provide breeding and rest areas for sea birds and Marine mammals. Gray Whales, Northern Elephant Seals, Harbor Seals, Sea Lions, Stellar Sea Lions, Black Oystercatchers, Great Blue Herons, and Pelagic Cormorants can all be viewed here. Because of the abundance of wildlife on Shell Island, there is no public access to the island itself, but viewing points can be found at Shore Acres, Simpson Reef Overlook and viewpoints along Cape Arago Highway.
Shore Acres State Park
4 miles SW of Charleston
A scenic area where rugged shoreline meets sandstone cliffs. Enclosed observation shelter perfect for storm watchers. Whale watching, picnicking, hiking, restrooms, phone, wheelchair access. Famous for its beautiful 7-acre botanical gardens and Japanese lily pond. The gardens shine with over 250,000 lights during the annual Holiday Lights & Open House, from Thanksgiving through first weekend in January. Gift shop and historical interpretive information. Simpson Park
Adjacent to North Bend Visitors Center and Coos County Historical Society Museum

Simpson Reef Overlook
4 miles SW of Charleston
Excellent vantage point for viewing marine animals that make the offshore rocks of Simpson Reef and Shell Island their home. Seabird and whale watching, seal and sea lion viewing. Interpretive signs and telescopes.
South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve
5 miles S of Charleston on Seven Devils Rd
First estuarine reserve in the nation. 4,700 acres of freshwater streams, upland forest, salt marshes, mudflats, open water channel, nature trails, boardwalk and tide flats. Many species of plants and animals. Interpretive center, educational presentations, bookstore, restrooms, phone, wheelchair access. A wonderful area to explore by canoe or kayak. 541-888-5558
State Street Park

Sunset Bay State Park
Features beautiful sandy beaches protected by towering sea cliffs. A favorite among locals and tourists, Sunset Bay State Park is protected by towering sea cliffs and features beautiful sandy beaches, amazing tide pools, picnic facilities, restrooms, and campgrounds. Beach goers will find easy access for beach combing, birding, fishing, swimming, and boating.
A network of hiking trails connects Sunset Bay with nearby Shore Acres and Cape Arago State Parks. Hiking these trails will give you a chance to experience pristine coastal forests, seasonal wildflowers and spectacular ocean vistas from atop the rugged cliffs and headlands. From points along the trail, you’ll be treated to views of Gregory Point and the Cape Arago lighthouse.

Camp year round in fully developed RV campgrounds at Bastendorff, LaVerne and Powers Parks. Coos County parks provide ADA restrooms as well as some ADA accessible campsites. Picnic shelters, large group RV camping and camping cabins are offered by reservation.
Primitive camp sites are available at Bennett, Hamm Bunch-Cherry Creek, Frona, Nesika and Rooke-Higgins Parks. These parks have river access. Picnic tables, firepits and vault toilets are available at all primitive campgrounds.
