Wine production is a labor of love that balances science with inventive style. Certain geographies are more adapted to producing traditional wines but other fertile locations can easily produce wines that command the attention of adventurous or distinctive palettes when at the hand of a skilled vintner. And that’s where one of Oregon’s newest wine growing regions comes in.
Coos County is arguably one of the most beautiful in Oregon. But beauty doesn’t produce wine. In this case, however, it is also home to a new breed of growers who have taken the time to match the bounty of the fields and the wet, warm, mesoclimates with production methods creating one-of-a-kind flavor.
Beginning in the late 1960’s, several family-owned and operated wineries opened offering grape and other berry varietals (think Cranberry, a native crop). In wine making years, the decades of local production puts us in the infant stage, compared to France, Italy or even Sonoma. Yet we are making somewhat of a reputation as word spreads.
So, while you’re here, we encourage you to sample the fruit of our fruit. When you return home, you can bring a taste of the Oregon Coast to your next dinner party.

Hawks View Winery & Wild Goose Vineyards
(541) 572-0251
Family owned and located on the scenic Powers Highway at milepost 11, Wild Goose Vineyards was planted in 2001. The vineyard overlooks the beautiful Coquille River Valley. Wild Goose Vineyards grows 19 varieties from Chardonnay to Cabernet. No pesticides or chemicals are used on the vines or berries, and sustainable viticulture is practiced.
Hawks View Winery is Coos County's first Estate Winery, which means grapes used in the winemaking are grown on the property. All the wines sold at Hawks View are made on location. Hawks View began in 2001 and started production in 2003 producing fine fruit and varietal (grape) wine. Some wine releases are as limited as two cases and sold only from the winery. Tours of the winery with barrel tasting are available. The tasting room is open from May through October and by appointment. Come in for free complementary tastes or purchase a glass or bottle of wine to enjoy on the deck. Call 541-572-0251 for information or directions.
Old Bridge Winery
(541) 572-0272
In 2001, Old Bridge Winery opened its doors as Coos County's first bonded winery. Old Bridge Winery is best known for its original Cranberry wine. With over 40 years of experience the vintners have created many original wines using combinations of fruit. The wine list contains Sweet Blackberry, Dry Blackberry, and Strawberry-Rhubarb varieties of wine. All of Old Bridge's wines are made from local fruits, no concentrate. The fruit is crushed, pressed, and processed right at the winery using only the freshest locally picked fruits. Old Bridge Winery also has a fine selection of grape wines. Late harvest grape wines have been created using the estate's grapes every year since the winery began.
Located on Highway 42 in Remote, between Myrtle Point and Roseburg, the Old Bridge Winery is on a hill overlooking the old Sandy Creek covered bridge. Tasting room doors open on May 1. The tasting room remains open throughout the holiday season until December 31. Visitors from nearly every state in the union and many other countries have sampled and enjoyed the flavors offered by Old Bridge Winery.
Old Coyote Winery
(541) 572-8090
In 2001, without any background in brewing, Tina Barnett consulted a how-to book and was surprised to find she, and her friends, thoroughly enjoyed her product. Experimenting with different fruits and fermenting methods, what began as a hobby turned into a business: Old Coyote, a beverage equivalent to grape wine, but with a specific South Coast character. Not the usual grape-based fare but the products of cranberries, huckleberries, and blackberries fill bottles of the Old Coyote Winery.
Sea Mist Winery
(541) 348-2351
Situated in 20 acres of cranberry bogs just south of Bandon off Highway 101, this is Oregon's first and only cranberry winery. Sea Mist Winery and soon to be opened tasting room offer unique, naturally fermented wines that include Cranberry, Semi-Dry Cranberry, Cranberry-Raspberry, and the very popular new Cranberry-Blueberry. Awards keep coming with the latest from Newport Wine and Seafood Festival where Cranberry and Cranberry-Blueberry took bronze medals and Cranberry-Raspberry took silver. Sea Mist is one of the fastest growing wineries in Oregon. Come see why it’s called "a taste of the Oregon Coast." For tours or information call 541-348-2351.
