Did you know there’s a special destination on Oregon’s Adventure Coast: Coos Bay, North Bend, Charleston dedicated to sharing the fascinating and compelling history of our region? The Coos History Museum & Maritime Collections , located on the waterfront in Coos Bay, is the premier history museum & maritime collection on Oregon’s South Coast and part of the 130 year old Coos County Historical Society . Formed in 1891, Coos County Historical Society is the region’s oldest community supported institutions dedicated to preserving the history of the South Coast!

The museum opened a beautiful new waterfront facility on Coos Bay’s historic Front Street six years ago, ushering in a new era of cultural and tourism in our area. The newer, state-of-the-art museum features interactive exhibits and resources designed to preserve the rich maritime and cultural history in Coos County, while visitors enjoy beautiful views of the bay.

Visitors are all but guaranteed to learn something new and leave with a better understanding of what life was like years ago on Oregon’s South Coast and how it relates to who we are today. They do this by collecting and preserving stories, artifacts, photographs, and documents, and by helping create opportunities for people to interpret them in meaningful, thought-provoking, and engaging ways.

While you are in the area, we encourage you to explore other historical sites on Front Street, the Marshfield Sun Printing Museum, the Coos Bay Boardwalk, and peering through windows of the historic Coos Bay Iron Works! We also hope you’ll visit Coos Bay Village, a new waterfront shopping complex located directly next to the museum. Sample delicious cheeses, ice cream and other local fare at Face Rock Creamery , an award-winning creamery of Bandon. Browse through the wonderful selection of local gifts and clothing at Checkerberry’s Flowers & Gifts . You can also stop by the brand new 7 Devils Waterfront Alehouse and taste their delicious selections from their new lunch & dinner menu , waterfront views, and of course- superb craft brews!
