So who has the BEST Clam Chowder on Oregon’s Adventure Coast: Coos Bay, North Bend, Charleston? It’s a question we often hear at the Coos Bay – North Bend Visitor & Convention Bureau. We’re awfully proud of our chowder so we conducted a very unscientific and unofficial poll on our Facebook page. Many of you weighed in with a very interesting range of suggestions in a variety of locations, but we’re looking for the best spots right here in Coos Bay/North Bend/Charleston.

So without further adieu, here are the winners of our “Very Unscientific and Unofficial Poll for the Best Clam Chowder on Oregon’s Adventure Coast” according to our Facebook followers:

FIRST PLACE: Captain’s Choice Fish House in North Bend

Captain’s Choice Fish House is a seafood restaurant in North Bend, Oregon serving fish, crab, chowder, sandwiches and more. “This is the best chowder on the South Coast,” writes one reviewer on TripAdvisor. “Made with lots of clams, half and half, and other great ingredients, you will not find a better chowder. Great service and consistent quality is the key to this great restaurant.”

SECOND PLACE: Monkey Business in Charleston

This take-out establishment located in the Charleston Marina is a relative newcomer to our local dining scene, but they have made quite a splash and earned rave reviews from patrons. “Absolutely the best clam chowder I’ve ever had,” writes a visitor from San Francisco on Yelp. “I’ve lived in various seaside towns for over 15 years and I promise you this spot is well worth the detour. I drove an hour out of the way and am so happy I did.”

THIRD PLACE: High Tide Cafe in Charleston

High Tide has been the long-standing winner of our unofficial “best clam chowder” poll for a number of years. Their clam chowder, along with the rest of the menu has earned high praise from visitors for years. “Excellent clam chowder and I have tried dozens of chowders in my almost 65 years,” says Myrtle Beach, SC visitor, Maggie C. “Clam in almost every spoonful, potatoes don’t dominate, creaminess you want - maybe a bit too thick even - seasoned perfectly. No need or desire to add salt or anything. Served with a thick piece of sourdough bread and butter…” High Tide is now under new ownership and we look forward to seeing what they’re going to do in the future!
