Oregon Coast Paddle Boarding in December? You betcha!

Posted by oregonkat on November 11, 2010

I recently came across some footage that I filmed last Christmas and wanted to share.  I was out crabbing at Bastendorff Beach on a beautiful December day and caught this footage of Brian Menten, owner of Waxer’s surf shop, as he gracefully rides the waves paddle boarding….I figured this would be a great time to remind travelers there is so much one can do during the holidays on the Oregon Coast (including riding the waves).

Never crowded and always beautiful, Bastendorff Beach is a is a favorite among surfers, kiters, beachcombers and locals and tourists year round and a  must see for beach enthusiasts. The beach is located ¼ mile off the Cape Arago Highway, approximately 2 miles west of Charleston.

Always be cautious when surfing and check surf reports before going out. Lighthouse Beach and Bastendorff Beach are our most recommended locations for surfing.  You can also call Waxer’s Surf Skate Shop (Downtown Coos Bay, across from the Egyptian Theatre) at 541.266.9020 for help.  Rentals, New & Used Surfboards, LongBoards, SkateBoards, Clothing and Accessories. Open 7 days a week.

Don’t forget to ask about Chowder Bounty going on through March 1!

So what are you doing this Holiday Season?
