Holiday Lights are set to sparkle again on Oregon’s Adventure Coast this season at Shore Acres State Park. Perched on the rugged cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Shore Acres State Park is famous for its beautiful 7-acre botanical gardens and Japanese lily pond. Visitors get a chance to stroll through this holiday tradition every night from 4:30pm to 9:00pm, Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve – including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It has become a real holiday tradition for the whole family. Admission is always free! However, parking at Shore Acres any time of the year is $5.
Since its inception in 1987, the annual Holiday Lights celebration has seen a remarkable transformation. What started with just 6,000 miniature lights and a single Christmas tree has evolved into a dazzling spectacle featuring more than 325,000 holiday lights (nearly all of them LED), 26 splendid Christmas trees, an array of illuminated sculptures, including some captivating animated ones, and enchanting landscape lights adorning the majestic trees that encircle the garden. This cherished community tradition is made possible by the Friends of Shore Acres, the dedicated efforts of more than 1,500 volunteers, the invaluable support of local businesses, state park personnel, and the wholehearted backing of the community. Each season, it draws in thousands of visitors from all over the world!
Take a break in the garden house to cozy up and savor some cookies along with a steaming cup of apple cider or coffee. Delve into the opulently adorned house and catch a glimpse of Santa “soaking” in the bathtub.
If you’re planning to drive, you will need a special Time-Specific Parking Pass in advance again this year. In an effort to reduce wait times and backed up traffic conditions, you’ll be required to make a Parking Pass reservation to visit. These Parking Passes are per vehicle, not per person. The passes are only $5 per vehicle, unless you already have an annual park pass (see Important Park Pass Information below). Either way, an advance online reservation is required. Parking Passes are managed by the Oregon State Parks.
Click the “Book Parking Pass Now” button below to secure your time-specific parking reservation. Don’t forget to print your pass or catch a screen shot of your pass. You will need the printed or screen shot pass to enter the park. Have questions? Call (541) 888-3778, the local State Parks office.
Important Park Pass Information: If you have an annual park pass (12- or 24-month), the Oregon Pacific Coast Passport, a current OR State Park camping confirmation that coincides with the date of event visit, or a special access pass (see website above for more info), the $5 will be waived. You still have to book online. You will need to present your event parking pass AND your special pass at the gate.
This year brings a new way to beat the traffic and parking - a FREE Shuttle Bus! Santa’s Shuttle will run between the Charleston Marina and Shore Acres State Park Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, plus Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve, throughout the six weeks starting from Thanksgiving and leading up to New Year’s Eve. These wheelchair-accessible shuttles will depart from the marina every 20 minutes between 4:15pm and 8:00pm. Last shuttle will leave the marina at 8:00pm to give folks enough time to enjoy the lights before the park closes at 9pm.
