Take a Hike on Millicoma Marsh with the South Coast Striders This Weekend

Oregon’s Adventure Coast is filled with magnificent hiking trails to challenge all levels. Millicoma Marsh is one of my personal favorite places to walk the dogs and/or go for a day hike so when I heard the South Coast Striders were doing a hike Sept 17 on that trail, I knew I had to do a post about it!

Millicoma Marsh & White Point Hike on Saturday, September 17th: 10 am
Meet at the Millicoma Middle School Athletic Field. Jamie Fereday will lead a 1.4 mile loop on one of the Coos estuary’s remaining salt marshes. Shorebirds, waterfowl, and raptors are commonly seen from the trail. Evidence of raccoon, black tailed deer, beaver, bats, and otter can be found by the curious and watchful.

There will be an option to extend your hike another 1-1.5 miles over undeveloped trails out to White Point. Some bush-whacking and mud may be involved ,so long pants and shirts and boots are recommended.

Directions:
From Coos Bay, take the Allegany Highway across Isthmus Slough Bridge. Turn left onto D Street. Turn right onto 4th Avenue. Park behind the school and take the steps down to the athletic field.

The South Coast Striders is a hiking group which plans and delivers free hikes in cooperation with the Bay Area Hospital, and the Coos County Women’s Health Coalition. Each week, they hike on different trails throughout our area and always welcome others to come along. This is a great program to participate in in whether you’re interested in getting a work out, or just want to breathe in the fresh air and experience the wildlife (and it’s free!).
