Coos Bay, North Bend & Charleston may have that small-town charm and appeal, but it doesn’t mean our restaurants are lacking in any way. You may be surprised to know that we have world-class chefs and chefs-in-training right here in our own back yard! The Oregon Coast Culinary Institute , one of Oregon’s top culinary schools, features award-winning student teams. A meal prepared by Black Market Gourmet owner and man of many talents, Chef Jardin Kazaar , is something everyone should experience.

Coos Bay is also home to Chef Eoghain O’Neill , owner of Restaurant O . You may be interested to know that Chef O’Neill has also appeared as a contestant on the Food Network hit show, Beat Bobby Flay. The premise of the show is for two talented chefs to compete for the chance to go toe-to-toe with celebrity chef Bobby Flay.

In the episode, Holidays Are for Battle, Neapolitan chef Simone Falco went head-to-head with Master Chef Eoghain O’Neill with their take on Cornish Game Hens. Though celebrity judges Alex Guarnaschelli and Tia Mowry ultimately decided to go with Chef Falco, Chef O’Neill presented them with a most impressive dish receiving praise by both judges.

Here are some behind-the-scenes photos shared on Chef O’Neill’s Instagram account :

Congratulations to Chef O’Neill for his stellar performance on the show!

Chef O’Neill has roots in Ireland, Trinidad and Tobago, and England. He pursued a degree in culinary arts in Canterbury, graduating summa cum laude before starting his adventure in various kitchens in Gstaad, London, Paris, Canouan and Mustique of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Sardinia, Italy. Chef O’Neill launched his first restaurant, Ristorante O in May 2013 in Alghero in Sardinia, Italy which earned him recommendations in the Michelin Guide and L’Espresso Guides for three years before deciding to make Coos Bay his home. He is widely respected for his extensive experiences in the sophisticated culinary arena in Europe and the Carribean.

Restaurant O, which opened it’s doors in December 2017, is a welcome addition to our local restaurant scene. Chef O’Neill’s innovative menu and attentive staff have received widespread accolades from visitors and locals alike. Located in the space formerly occupied by Benetti’s Italian Restaurant, Restaurant O is one of the first open concept kitchens in southern Oregon and features a tapas and cocktail bar, a brasserie main dining hall and a tasting room on the upper level that overlooks the bay. Reservations are recommended.
