Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions About the 2026 Holiday Lights Display at Shore Acres State Park
The 38th Annual Holiday Lights at Shore Acres State Park is just around the corner! An army of volunteers from the Friends of Shore Acres (that’s right, volunteers) is hard at work transforming the gardens at Shore Acres State Park into a holiday wonderland. From Thanksgiving, November 26, through New Year’s Eve, the display, featuring over 325,000 LED lights, 26 large holiday trees, landscape lighting, and animated/lighted marine sculptures, will sparkle, dazzle, and twinkle across the park’s botanical gardens every night from 4:30 to 9 p.m., including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
What began in 1987 with 6,000 lights and a single tree has grown into one of the most beloved holiday traditions on Oregon’s Adventure Coast: Coos Bay, North Bend and Charleston. Last year alone, the park welcomed an estimated 40,000-50,000 visitors from across the United States and 29 countries !

Who are The Friends of Shore Acres? The Friends of Shore Acres is a group of volunteers dedicated to the beautification and preservation of Shore Acres State Park, the “crown jewel” of Oregon’s South Coast. The group of volunteers launched the Holiday Lights show in 1987, and it continued to delight visitors through 2019. The event was paused in 2020-2021 for visitor safety during the pandemic.

Shore Acres State Park is located on the southern Oregon coast, 13 miles southwest of Coos Bay and North Bend along the Cape Arago Highway. The address is 89039 Cape Arago Hwy, Coos Bay, OR 97420. For Holiday Lights, visitors have two options: purchase a timed parking pass in advance or take the *FREE Santa’s Shuttle departing from the Charleston Marina parking lot.
*Santa’s Shuttle operates on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve, plus the three holiday nights of Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve. The shuttle is not available Monday- Thursday (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve are the exception).
To prevent heavy traffic and protect visitors' safety on Cape Arago Highway, Oregon State Parks has implemented a timed-entry system that all park visitors planning to drive to Shore Acres must sign up for in advance or be turned away. Parking at Shore Acres requires a timed Parking Pass, which you must purchase online before arriving at the park. Those with State Park Passes will have the $10 fee waived but must still reserve their Timed Parking Pass in advance. Reserve a Timed Parking Pass at: h+ps://oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com/tourParkDetail.do?contractCode=OR&parkId=402381
What is required to enter? Visitors who drive must reserve their spot in advance and have their parking pass/ticket with them to show the ranger at the booth when they arrive at their selected times. Your parking pass/ticket may be printed or presented to park staff digitally by downloading and saving to a cell phone prior to arrival. There is NO cell service or internet at park. Visitors who take the Holiday Lights Shuttle on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays are not required to have a ticket.
When should I reserve my spot? Now. If you have not already done so, we suggest reserving your time slot as soon as possible! However, if you are not yet sure which night you plan to attend, we encourage you to purchase no later than 7 days prior to your preferred date to ensure you can get a parking spot.
What if all the spots are taken before we make our plans? Additional spots will be released closer to the event and are available through a seven-day rolling window. If your preferred time is unavailable, please check again, as new inventory is released daily at 6 a.m. For details, visit the Oregon State Parks website.
Can’t I just show up and pay my parking fee in person? No. Visitors must purchase a parking pass/ticket in advance and bring it when they arrive for their timed entry, or they will be turned away.
Do I have to reserve a time slot if I am a resident? Yes. Everyone wishing to see the Lights this year must reserve a spot and have their ticket ready to show the ranger at the booth when they arrive at their selected time, regardless of residency.
How do I reserve my time slot? Date and timed entry parking tickets areavailable now online . Reservations can also be made by calling 800-452-5687.
How many tickets will I need? One (1) ticket will be required per vehicle regardless of how many people are in the vehicle.
Why does Oregon State Parks have a timed entry system for the Holiday Lights at Shore Acres? This process will help people enter the parking area quickly and prevent long waits, which will improve safety on the Cape Arago Highway. In previous years, long lines backed up on narrow highways and blocked side roads, hindering traffic and emergency vehicle access.
What do we do with the printed ticket? Present the printed or downloaded digital ticket to park staff at entry to keep traffic moving. Present the ticket to park staff at entry, along with a selected pass, permit, or current campground confirmation letter.
What if I already have an Oregon State Park Parking Permit? You will still need to reserve your timed entry in advance and have your ticket ready to show the ranger when you arrive during your scheduled time. However, the $10 fee may be waived if one of the following applies to you (you will need to select the option during the reservation process): You have a 12- or 24-month parking permit; a special access pass for either veterans with service-connected disabilities or foster, guardian, and adoptive foster parents of Oregon foster children; current Oregon State Park camping confirmation that coincides with the date of the event visit; or an Oregon Pacific Coast Passport.
What if our plans change? Can we change the date? Will we get a refund? Tickets can be changed or canceled online or by calling 800-452-5687 until the date of the tour, as long as they haven’t been printed or previewed. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations.

If going through the Oregon State Parks timed entry system for this event is not an option for your group, you may take the FREE Shuttle that operates on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve, plus the three holiday nights of Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve, which all fall on Thursdays this year.
