When it comes to enhancing both mental and physical well-being, few activities can rival the unparalleled benefits that running provides - especially if you’re running on Oregon’s Adventure Coast: Coos Bay, North Bend, Charleston. Many people choose to run alone as a way to clear their minds, enjoy solitude, and focus on their own pace and goals. However, group running can foster a sense of community, friendship, and motivation, as runners encourage and challenge each other to achieve their goals.

Organizations like the South Coast Running Club are helping to transform the sport of running into a highly social activity by hosting a series of events throughout the year including the big Roseburg to Coos Bay Relay , a 68-mile run or 24-mile walk relay race featuring amazing scenery and challenging hills on April 20, 2024! If you’re a runner seeking opportunities for camaraderie, challenge, and beautiful scenery, this is the race for you.

“The Roseburg to Coos Bay Relay is more than just a race”, says Coos Bay-North Bend-Charleston Visitor & Convention Bureau Director Janice Langlinais. “It’s a celebration of community spirit, teamwork, and personal achievement. Whether you’re running for fun, fitness, or a cause close to your heart, the Roseburg to Coos Bay Relay offers something for everyone.”

Whether you opt for the 68-mile, 5-person running team or the 24-mile, 4-person walking team, there will be something for everyone. Runners will commence from the KPIC-TV parking lot in Roseburg, while walkers begin their adventure at Laverne Park in Coquille. The grand finale awaits at the Coos Bay History Museum (1210 N. Front Street, Coos Bay), where a well-deserved reward awaits. All participants can savor a complimentary dinner and a refreshing 7-Devils beer (courtesy of 7-Devils Brewing Co.)

In addition to the race itself, there are many landmarks and attractions runners will enjoy visiting while they are here. Fans of Steve Prefontaine can explore local attractions linked to the legendary Coos Bay long-distance runner, including a bronze plaque at the Coos Bay Visitor Information Center, the Prefontaine Gallery at the Coos Art Museum displaying his awards and memorabilia, and the striking Pre Mural in downtown Coos Bay. Delve into Steve’s early life, visit his training grounds, and trace his path on a Coos Bay area tour led by his sister, Linda. Book the Tour de Pre for small groups directly with Linda Prefontaine.

Race participants can also experience everything from epic hiking trails with sweeping views to casino gaming, along with mountain biking , fishing , crabbing , clamming , riding the Oregon Dunes , beach combing & tide pooling , exploring the unique art, history and culture that makes Oregon’s Adventure Coast such a special destination, and more .
